Frederic Leighton was a representant of the Aesthetic Movement in British art, insisting upon beauty and form as the artist’s primary concerns.

May is aged about fifteen and depicted in the setting of the family’s country residence in Hampshire. The fallen tree suggests the passage of time and mortality, accentuating her fragile beauty. Google Art Project

Soul in bondage

When I made this postcard, there was a small problem. I could not use the title of the painting without having to raise the age limit of my Zazzle account.

But, as you understand, this is a very metaphysical picture. The soul is depicted as a winged creature, for the moment prevented to take flight. A very beautiful picture and symbolism, I think.

The image file is quite large, would also make a fine poster.

is the Latin name of  this flower (praktkrissla in Swedish).

The photo is taken at the end of the flowering period which gives it a special atmosphere. Also the day was closing, the sunbeams were coming from a low. An intensive goodbye...
